Watts was born 28 September 1968. After her family moved to Australia and she
made her film debut there in the drama For Love Alone (1986) after which she
appeared in three television series, Hey Dad.. (1990), Brides of Christ (1991)
as well as Home and Away (1991) and in the film Flirting (1991). After arriving
in the United States, Watts initially was not a successful actress, performing
in small-scale movies until she appeared in David Lynch's psychological thriller
Mulholland Drive in 2001 as an aspiring actress. Her rise to international fame
was spurred by the role. Watts then played a tormented journalist in the horror
film The Ring (2002). For her portrayal of a grieving mother , in the Alejandro
film 21 Grams, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress. Her
star power was growing as she starred in I Heart Huckabees (2004). King Kong
(2006), Eastern Promises ((2007)) and The International (2009). In her role as
Maria Bennett in the disaster film The Impossible (2012), Watts received an
additional Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. She was in films such as
Birdman (2014) St. Vincent (2014) and While We're Young (2015). Watts was also
a mainstay in blockbuster film, appearing in Divergent (2015)-2016.
